Choosing window treatments can be overwhelming. There are so many things to consider, like fabrics, installation, accessories, and the systems. Choosing between the various systems on the market can be a real headache, too.
Fortunately, I’ve compiled a list of the most common types of systems, and I’ll break them down for ease and safety.
System #1: The Timeless & Practical Chain Pull
Chain pull systems are the most common way to raise and lower roller shades. This system offers several advantages for end-users:
- Cost effective
- Precise control
- Available for most standard roller shades

System #2: The Elegant & Modern Electric Motor
Motorized shades offer a host of benefits, but above all, they offer convenience at your fingertips. You can adjust the shades with a push of a button or even with a voice command. In addition, they operate with near silence.
Aside from these benefits, motorized shades offer better accessibility for people with mobility issues or windows that are out of reach. If you’re looking for a convenient way to manage your window coverings, motorized shades are the answer.

System #3: The Safe & Simple Spring Lift
Cordless blinds and cellular shades are a safe alternative to blinds with cords and cleats. They use a spring system that holds the blinds/shades securely at the chosen height, and you can raise and lower them using the bottom rail.
These blinds are ideal if you have young children or pets, as there is no danger of strangulation or entanglement. You can also choose between a traditional or a top-down bottom-up style.
Cordless lift shades and blinds are an easy choice for rooms with small children and animals. The lack of a pulling cord removes a safety hazard. With motorized options, you can use a remote control, an app, or Alexa/Siri to raise or lower the shade or blinds, but cordless is also a good choice if you’re not keen on any of those.
Most importantly, cordless lift styles are cost-effective compared to motorized. They’re also available in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures, so they’re easy to match to any room in your home.
