Corded blinds pose a serious risk to children and pets. Young children can easily become tangled in window blind cords, leading to potential strangulation. In fact, a study found that between 1990 and 2015, about 17,000 children under 6 years old were treated in emergency rooms for injuries related to corded blinds.
In this post, we’ll explore various options and share our tips for choosing the safest window treatments for your home…
The Hidden Dangers of Corded Blinds
The elimation of free-hanging cords from Roman shades and blinds is far overdue. Not only are they unslightly, but they also create a significant safety hazard for children and pets.
To address these concerns, the traditional cord lock system has been completely phased out. Our workroom now exclusively uses a safer, cordless system. While the term “cordless” might seem misleading, since the shades still contain internal strings to raise and lower them, it simply means there are no exposed cords or strings hanging down the side and puddling on the floor. I always thought that “cordless shades” is an oxymoron because they still have strings, just hidden, and far safer.
